Assessment of the Vulnerability of the Lucana Coastal Zones (South Italy) to Natural Hazards

Coasts are highly dynamic and geo-morphologically complex systems that exposed to several factors such as waves, extreme meteorological events climate change. Consequently, it necessary quantify hazards vulnerability develop tools monitor risks support making targeted adaptation policies. this paper, a framework estimate flooding erosion has been developed for the Ionian Basilicata coast. based on two methods: integrated index (flooding erosion) CeD physical (multi-risk assessment). Our results in agreement with recent shoreline evolution: risk of coast generally medium high, while “physical vulnerability” high very high. highlight spatial variability vulnerability, probably due morphology beach, which requires developing strategic approach management defining mitigation measures, considering relevant aspects exposure degree.
